Grand Theft Hamlet

“If there is one disappointing element of this moving, amusing, sad and memorable film it’s that it isn’t five hours long.” - TheWrap

When all theatres closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, two actors, Sam and Mark, became uncertain about their future. In the virtual chaos of Grand Theft Auto Online, they found an unexpected outlet: they decided to perform Hamlet in its entirety there, right in the middle of cars, guns, violence, and the chaos of other online gamers. Not just the two of them, but also with the help of complete strangers.

This comedic documentary is made entirely within the world of Grand Theft Auto Online.

Murf/Murw festival

This film screening is part of a series of three screenings for the 2025 edition of the Murf/Murw festival. Murf/Murw was founded in 2018 as a fanzine. Since 2020, they have organised an annual festival in the city centre of Tilburg focusing on experimental theatre, music, visual arts, and film, with a new theme each year. This year, the theme is Pangea.

The films are screened at a unique location, the national monument Broekhovense Church, a church building in Tilburg located at Broekhovenseweg 2.
