How does sound tell a story? In the three-part film series 'Around sound', three films take centre stage in which not the image but sound is a leading narrative. What if sound is not in the service of the visual, but takes the lead to tell a cinematographic story?
Optics are everything, could well be the maxim of our contemporary culture. Whether something is real or genuine hardly seems to matter anymore, as long as the image fits. The regime of visual language is so dominant that our eyes seem to have become our primary senses. But in the battle for our attention through visual overstimulation, we forget an important source of storytelling: sound.
The screenings prioritise an optimal sound experience, which is why they are organised in Volver Studio near Ringbaan Noord. Balloons will be available for those in the audience who want to feel the film's soundtrack. All three films will be briefly introduced by curator Anneroos Goosen, and opened with a short sound film by Het Concreet. Afterwards, you can listen to a tape piece by Het Concreet in the control room of the sound studio. This edition you'll see an opening film by Het Concreet X Piet-Jan van Rossum.
